Two jewelers work in the front window of a shop that has been in one family for three generations. Engagement rings are drawn, carved and set here on Grand Street, by the person you talked to.
Most of our rings start as a conversation at the counter and a stone we source for you. You will see a sketch, then a rendering, then a wax you can hold, before any metal is poured. Nothing is cast until you have said yes to something you can see.
An hour at the counter, no charge. Bring photos, a ring that fits, or nothing at all. We talk about the hands that will wear it and the budget that fits them.
Theo draws it by hand, then builds it in CAD so you can turn it around on a screen. Stones are sourced to your budget; you choose from three, in person, under our light.
A printed wax of your ring, sized to your finger. Try it on. Lower the setting, thin the band, soften the shoulders. This is the step people are glad they did not skip.
Cast, hand-finished, stones set and polished at our bench. You leave with the ring, a written appraisal for insurance, and free cleanings and checks for life.
Complete, with the stone, in 14k gold. Every quote is written before we start and does not move unless you change something.

Bring the piece in. Most repairs are quoted on the spot, and batteries and sizing rarely need an appointment.
Prices are for 14k gold and standard stones. Platinum, and work around fragile stones like emerald and opal, is quoted separately.
Theo Hesse and Marisol Quintero work at two benches in the front window, under the same lamps our grandfather bought used in 1958. Between them: a laser welder, a torch, a rolling mill, three drawers of files and a loupe each. Marisol has set stones for nineteen years and does most of the pavé. Theo does the forging, the CAD and the engraving.
When a repair says one week, it means a week in that window, not a week in transit somewhere. Your ring does not leave the building.

Walter Hesse opened Bezel at 118 Grand Street in 1958 with one bench, a borrowed torch and a habit of doing repairs while the customer waited. His daughter Ingrid took the bench in 1989, added the estate case, and taught half the jewelers in the county to set a stone. Her son Theo came home from a workshop abroad in 2014, brought the CAD and the laser welder with him, and runs the shop now from the same bench his grandfather sat at, with the same lamps overhead.

Every appraisal comes with photographs, a full description and a replacement value, in the format insurers ask for. Bring the piece and any paperwork; most are ready in a week.
Custom work is paid in two halves, one when you approve the wax and one when you collect. Twelve-month interest-free plans are available on anything over $1,500; ask at the counter.
Everything made here is guaranteed for life against defects in the work. Free cleaning and a prong check every six months, forever, on anything bought or made at Bezel.
